SOUNDPEATS Clip1 review: open-ear earbuds for gaming and everyday use

The SOUNDPEATS Clip1 were provided by the company for my review – and I thank them for that. When I first put them on my ears while setting up the free PeatsAudio app, I was wondering how much Bluetooth sound you get for around seventy dollars these days. Quickly did I become fascinated by this new idea of having round loudspeakers sitting on top of the ear canal. You don’t have to insert them and you don’t have to fiddle with silicone tips. Earlier I used the PearlClip Pro and I could recognise its usefulness and unique shape, so with the Clip1 I wanted to see what changed.

Design and comfort

The Clip1 take a fresh approach to clip-on design. The case is slightly larger and heavier than expected and feels solid. The finish is matte black and not a fingerprint magnet. The lid snaps shut tightly and the LED light shows when the earbuds charge inside. It’s simple and clean.

SOUNDPEATS Clip1 Design

The earbuds clip onto the ear securely and stay in place when moving. They use a thin memory wire that you can bend without fear. It adjusts easily and keeps shape. At five grams each they feel light and comfortable for hours. They don’t press the ear and they don’t move around. You can wear them with glasses or a mask without any problem. Air flows freely around the ears and heat never builds up like on in-ear buds.

Clip1

I used them for several days straight, for music, videos, and gaming. They never caused fatigue. The fit is better than the older models. The Clip1 feel secure and easy to wear for long sessions.

The battery life is about eight hours per charge and the case adds forty hours. Charging happens over USB-C. Ten minutes of charging give two hours of playback. That is useful when you forget to charge before playing. The LED indicator shows blue while charging and white when ready. Everything fits well inside the case and nothing rattles.

Controls and connectivity

The Clip1 use three touch areas – the logo, the driver, and the stem. Touch response is good and no false triggers happen. It’s simple to control:

  • Double-tap L or R to play or pause.
  • Hold R to skip forward.
  • Hold L to go back.
  • Triple-tap R to switch Gaming mode.
  • Triple-tap L for voice assistant.

Connection is strong. Bluetooth 5.4 pairs fast and stays stable up to ten metres. They connect as soon as the case opens. Multipoint works so you can stay linked to phone and laptop at the same time. When you activate LDAC for Hi-Res audio, multipoint turns off to keep the sound quality high. That’s normal. Signal stays solid through walls and no drops occur.

Automatic left-right detection works as advertised. You can wear either ear first and the channels correct themselves. It’s a small thing but it helps a lot when you switch sides.

Gaming performance

With Gaming mode on, the Clip1 perform really well. The delay is small, almost not noticeable. Footsteps, gunshots, and explosions line up with what you see. It works both on Android and Windows. The 12 mm dual-magnet drivers give a clear and open sound. Bass is quick and not too strong. Explosions have power but never cover the other sounds. It stays balanced.

When playing shooters like Call of Duty Mobile, it’s possible to hear where players move around you. The soundstage is wide for open earbuds. Dolby Audio makes it even wider. You can tell directions and distance in the game. The difference between normal and Dolby is easy to notice. Movie mode opens the space and adds depth.

The DynamicEQ keeps the tone balanced. At lower volume, voices and details are a bit stronger. At higher volume, the bass gets a little more weight. It helps when switching between gaming and music. It sounds controlled. Nothing feels out of place.

Microphone and calling

The Clip1 use the AeroVoice system and AI ENC. Voice quality is good. People hear you clearly. Outside, the microphone cuts wind noise better than before. It still lets some background sound through, but not too much. In quiet rooms the sound is clean and full. For Discord or in-game chat it works well. There is no echo or sharp tone. Voices stay natural.

App support

The PeatsAudio app adds more control. You can turn LDAC, DynamicEQ, Dolby Audio, and Game Mode on or off. You can change EQ or update firmware. The app keeps your settings saved. It connects slower the first time, but after that it’s stable. It’s the same layout as other SOUNDPEATS models. Simple and direct. No account needed.

Clip1 Game Mode

AutoSense detection also works with the app. It shows which side you wear first and swaps channels automatically. There’s a game mode switch, touch control setup, and language settings. Firmware updates install directly through the app. Everything is clear and easy to use.

Sound quality

The Clip1 sound clear and balanced. Bass is tighter than on the older POP Clip. The titanium PVD coating on the driver makes bass more precise and less boomy. There is enough low end for games, but not too much. Voices stay forward and clean. Highs are bright but not sharp. Music sounds natural.

LDAC improves the detail. You can hear more air and texture. Dolby Audio widens the stage. The combination makes games, films, and songs sound lively. Mids are smooth, and there is enough space between instruments. For open-ear earbuds, the sound quality is very good.
