SOUNDPEATS Cove Pro review: wireless gaming headphones with 95-hour battery

The SOUNDPEATS Cove Pro were provided by the company for my review. When I first unboxed them, I was curious about what seventy dollars gets you in wireless gaming headphones these days. The spec sheet looked impressive on paper 95 hours of battery life, LDAC codec support, 56dB noise cancellation, and 0.06-second low latency Game Mode. After testing them for two weeks with mobile games, PC gaming, and everyday use, I found these budget headphones punch well above their weight.

Design and comfort

The Cove Pro feel solid for $70 wireless headphones. The matte black finish looks clean and doesn’t attract fingerprints. The logo sits discreetly embossed on each earcup. It’s simple and understated. The headphones fold flat for storage, though no carrying case is included in the box.

SoundPEATS Cove Pro Review

At 250 grams, these are one of the lighter gaming headphones I’ve tested. The protein leather earpads are plush and soft with memory foam cushioning. They’re breathable enough that heat doesn’t build up during long gaming sessions. I wore them for six-hour sessions and never felt the need to take them off. The headband offers good clamping force without excessive pressure. It stays secure but never feels tight.

All controls sit on the right earcup volume up/down, power/play/pause, and ANC toggle. The buttons are physical and clicky. You know exactly when you press them. On the left earcup you get USB-C charging and a 3.5mm AUX jack for wired mode. The adjustable metal frame feels durable and the folding mechanism works smoothly.

The Cove Pro use a lightweight but sturdy construction with no hollow or cheap feel. For budget gaming headphones, the build quality is better than expected.

Controls and connectivity

Controls are straightforward. All buttons sit on the right side:

  • Volume up/down buttons (hold to skip tracks)
  • Power button (press once for play/pause, hold for pairing)
  • ANC toggle button

The power button also activates Game Mode when you need low latency. Everything is physical no touch-sensitive surfaces that might trigger by accident during gaming.

SoundPEATS Cove Pro Controls

Bluetooth 6.0 pairs fast and stays stable up to 10 meters. Connection is solid through walls with no drops. Multipoint works you can stay connected to your phone and PC simultaneously. When you activate LDAC for Hi-Res audio, multipoint stays active but LDAC only works with the primary device. That’s normal for high-bitrate codecs.

The headphones support SBC, AAC, and LDAC. LDAC only works with Android 8.0 and higher. iPhone users are limited to AAC. When paired with Android devices, LDAC made an audible difference. Detail retrieval improved and instrument separation got better.

Gaming performance

With Game Mode on, the Cove Pro deliver impressive performance for wireless gaming headphones at this price. The 0.06-second latency is low enough that audio sync is not a problem. Footsteps, gunshots, and explosions line up with what you see on screen. It works on both mobile and PC. The delay is almost not noticeable compared to wired headphones.

SOUNDPEATS Cove Pro Gaming performance

The 40mm titanium-plated drivers give clear and balanced sound. Bass is punchy without being boomy. Explosions have weight but never drown out other sounds. The N48 magnets and flower-dome diaphragm design deliver fast transient response. That means sudden sounds like gunfire stay sharp and don’t blur together.

When playing shooters like Call of Duty and Apex Legends on PS5, directional audio works well. You can hear where enemies move around you. The soundstage is more compact than open-back headphones, but separation is good for the price. Footsteps are clear. Reloads are distinct. Voice chat stays intelligible even when explosions happen nearby.

Cove Pro 0.06-second latency

The 56dB Adaptive Hybrid ANC helps block outside noise when you need to focus. It uses a 7-microphone system with both feed-forward and feedback processing. The adaptive algorithm adjusts noise cancellation in real-time based on your environment. It creates what SOUNDPEATS calls a “Personal Bubble.” It effectively silences AC units, fans, and background chatter. For gaming in noisy environments, it’s a big help.

Turning on Active Noise Canceling changes the sound profile slightly it adds a bit more bass weight and opens up the soundstage. Based on testing, the Cove Pro sound best with ANC enabled for gaming. The difference isn’t huge but it’s noticeable.

Microphone and calling

The Cove Pro use a 7-microphone array with AI beamforming. Voice pickup is good for the price. People hear you clearly in Discord and in-game chat. The AI noise reduction cuts keyboard clicks and mouse sounds effectively. There’s no echo or sharp tone. Voices stay natural.

The aerodynamic design helps with wind resistance up to 30 km/h. I tested calls outside while walking and voice quality stayed clear despite breeze. In quiet rooms the mic performs even better sound is clean and full. Background noise gets filtered out without making your voice sound processed.

For gaming communication and video calls, the mic quality is above average for budget wireless headphones. It’s not studio-grade but it gets the job done without complaints from teammates.

App support

The SOUNDPEATS app adds useful control options. You can toggle ANC, Game Mode, and EQ settings. The app includes preset EQ modes (Bass Boost, Bass Reduction, Classical, Rock, Jazz, and more) plus a 10-band custom equalizer with +/-6dB adjustments.

SOUNDPEATS app

The app layout is clean and direct. No account needed. Connection is stable after the first pairing. Firmware updates install through the app. You can adjust ANC strength, toggle transparency mode, and enable Game Mode without touching the headphones.

The custom EQ is where the app shines. If you want more bass for games, switch to Bass Boost. Too much low end? Try Bass Reduction or tune it yourself. The 10-band EQ gives good control over the sound signature. I found the best gaming experience came from a slight V-shape boosted bass and treble with mids pulled back a bit for clearer positional audio.

The Adaptive EQ function plays test tones at different frequencies and you select whether you hear them. It creates a personalized frequency curve. Results vary but it’s worth trying.

Sound quality

The Cove Pro have a balanced and smooth sound signature. Bass is juicy with deep, satisfying tones. Lower frequencies are slightly boosted, mainly in the sub-bass region, with extension down to 40Hz. This results in a pleasant rumble for explosions and gunfire without being overwhelming. The boost ends before 200Hz so bass never bleeds into the midrange.

SoundPEATS Cove Pro Sound quality

Mids are lush and vibrant. Midrange frequencies are well-balanced right out of the box. Vocals come through clear and full. The midrange is soulful and emotive for music but stays neutral enough for gaming. There’s no bass bleed so every sound gets its chance to shine.

Treble is smooth and non-fatiguing. Higher frequencies have enough energy and detail retrieval without any harshness. Cymbals and hi-hats have texture. There’s no splashiness or metallic sizzle even at higher volumes. The highs peak at the right frequency there’s shimmer and energy without being offensive.

The soundstage is more compact and closed-in than open-back headphones. For some people this adds to the energy and intensity of fast-paced games. Separation is good for the price. Imaging is decent for left/right positioning. You won’t get the wide soundstage of $300 headphones but for gaming at $70, it works well.

Maximum volume can reach around 110dB with the right content. These are one of the loudest headphones I’ve tested at this price point.

The Hi-Res Audio certification (both wired and wireless) means the Cove Pro can reproduce frequencies from 20Hz to 40kHz. That’s well beyond standard CD quality. With LDAC enabled and high-bitrate source files, you can hear more detail and air in the mix. For gaming, this translates to better spatial awareness and clearer environmental sounds. If you are interested in more details about what the LDAC Codec is, read my guide.

Battery life

The Cove Pro deliver ridiculous battery life. At 95 hours without ANC and 58 hours with ANC on, these outlast every gaming headphone in this price range. I tested this with music looping at 75% volume with ANC enabled. After six hours of continuous use, the battery dropped about 8%. You can easily game for days between charges.

Quick charge works phenomenally. Ten minutes on the charger gives 11 hours of playback. That’s enough to get through a full gaming session even if you forgot to charge overnight. Charging happens over USB-C and takes about two hours for a full charge from empty.

For gaming marathons, LAN parties, or travel, the Cove Pro eliminate battery anxiety. Charging once a week is a real possibility even with heavy use.

Wired mode

The headphones support wired connectivity via the included 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. However, wired mode sounds worse than Bluetooth in testing. Plugging in the cable and the bass got bloated. Mids got thick and compressed. The cable bypasses the built-in DSP which handles tuning corrections, so you get a raw response that’s not as refined.

ANC doesn’t work when wired either. You can’t use noise canceling while listening via the 3.5mm jack. The only advantage is battery backup you can still use them when the battery runs dry.

Bluetooth mode is better for sound quality and gaming. The wireless connection is optimized and works best for the Cove Pro.

At $69.99 (use code SPCOVEPRO2 for 10% off), the Cove Pro deliver tremendous value for budget-conscious gamers. LDAC support and Hi-Res certification are rare at this price. The 7-mic AI calling system works well for Discord and team chat. ANC is strong enough to block roommates and outside noise.

The main downsides are no carrying case, tinny transparency mode, and wired mode that sounds worse than Bluetooth. Multipoint doesn’t auto-reconnect when you return to a device. But these are minor complaints.
