Ziumier Gaming Headset Review

Ziumier may be known for its range of budget gaming accessories, but they’re rapidly becoming a contender in the gaming headset market, too. Much like how many of their products offer class-leading feature sets at attainable prices, their headsets continue this trend, offering affordable yet high performant gaming headsets and, as we are reviewing here, the Ziumier gaming headset.

The Ziumier gaming headset is an affordable 7.1 stereo surround headset that is compatible with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC, laptops and mobile devices using the 3.5mm audio jack. Lightweight, comfortable and with an audio-tune customised for gaming, the Ziumier headset has surprised me in all the right ways.

There are a couple of areas where I think Ziumier could make improvements, but considering the price and that this is one of their gaming headsets, I think Ziumier has made a fantastic headset.

Design and build

I love some of the detail that has gone into the Ziumier headset. Anyone familiar with Ziumier products will recognise the RGB lighting on the ear cups, but the way it has been integrated here is very tasteful. The RGB lighting adds a gaming feel without being overly bright, making it ideal for gaming in a dim room.

The ear cups are made of hardened plastic with a matte finish. This is purely cosmetic, however, as the Ziumier is a closed-back headset. The ear cups are chunky without being oversized, and they are very well assembled, with no creaking components when flexed.

The earpads are stuffed with plenty of soft protein memory foam and coated with supple leatherette. It’s very comfortable, but it can make your ears quite warm compared to fabric coverings. I found the sizing to be ample to completely cover my ears and wearing the headset correctly created a very effective acoustic seal, which is important for both sound quality and passive noise reduction.

Ziumier has judged the clamping force perfectly; some headsets can squeeze across your temples or below your ears but these sit perfectly for my taste. The Ziumier headset is also well suited to glasses-wearers, as the ear pads are soft enough that they won’t press on the arms and cause discomfort. It’s not quite on the same level as premium pads, as you do lose the seal slightly, but that’s a common thing glasses-wearers have to put up with, unfortunately.

Features and controls

All of the controls are located on the cable, and I found them very easy to locate and operate. I like how it only takes a small movement to adjust the volume; it’s a very minor quality of life improvement, but it’s one of those things that once you try it, you wonder why that isn’t the standard.

From top to bottom on the cable;

Rotary volume controller, microphone mute button, durable braided cable, USB for lighting.

Having the mic mute easily accessible is a bonus, and although there is no visual indicator while wearing the headset, the button is easy to find by touch during gaming.

The Ziumier gaming headset uses a physical volume dial, and it is reliable without the crackle or static noise that can occur with cheaper adjusters.

Connectivity

The Ziumier gaming headset connects using a 3.5mm audio jack, making it compatible with PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Switch, PC, laptops and mobile devices. Users will appreciate the simple plug and play connection. The USB connection is used for powering the RGB lighting and does not carry audio.

ZIUMIER gaming headset Compatibility

It is important to note that for older Xbox One controllers (model 1537), an additional  Microsoft adapter (not included) will be required to connect the headset, which is standard for many wired gaming headsets.

When using the headset on PC, it is important to use the included splitter cable, with the pink plug for the microphone and the green plug for audio, ensuring that both functions work correctly. This is important for users searching “ziumier gaming headset mic not working xbox one” to check first.

Sound Quality

Much like my colleague Andy noted when he reviewed other gaming headsets, the Ziumier headset has a gaming-focused audio tuning. Rather than pushing heavy bass that can drown out other details, the Ziumier headset has a mostly neutral profile, with an emphasis on the mids and highs that makes the audio sound bright and clear. If you play competitive games, you will appreciate this tuning, as it helps you hear footsteps, gunfire and in-game audio cues without being drowned out by low frequencies.

Ziumier headset Sound Quality

The bass is still present, but it’s not overwhelming, allowing the mids and treble to shine through clearly during gaming sessions.

There can be a slight muddiness when there is a lot of overlapping in-game audio, but compared to other headsets in this price range, performance is above average. Overall, I think Ziumier has found a good balance, especially in a headset that can be found at an affordable price.

The 7.1 stereo surround feature helps to create a sense of space, giving you a better positional awareness during gaming. It is not on the level of higher-end headsets, but for the price, it enhances the gaming experience in titles like Fortnite, PUBG and CS:GO.

Microphone quality

The microphone is about what you would expect from a headset in this range. Clarity is decent, but bass tones are subdued, meaning it is not a full representation of your voice. It has an omnidirectional pickup pattern, which is great for capturing your voice during gaming, but it will pick up some background noise, like keyboard clicks.

The microphone is flexible and can be adjusted to your preferred position, and it holds its place well during gaming sessions.

Comfort

The Ziumier headset is lightweight, using soft protein memory foam ear pads that are comfortable during extended gaming sessions. The retractable headband and flexible frame help the headset fit securely without pressing too hard on the sides of your head.

I found it easy to wear the headset for several hours without discomfort, and the headset stayed in place during longer gaming sessions, making it a good option for those who play for long periods.

Summary

I’m impressed with what Ziumier has achieved with this gaming headset, especially at this price point. It has a clean design with tasteful RGB lighting, solid build quality, and a comfortable fit that makes it easy to use for extended gaming sessions. The microphone could be improved, and the RGB lighting could have more customisation, but these are minor points.

Ziumier gaming headset

Overall, the Ziumier gaming headset offers a strong option for gamers looking for an affordable wired headset with 7.1 stereo surround sound, clear audio and a comfortable design. If you need a headset for gaming on PC, console or mobile devices, the Ziumier gaming headset is a great choice.
