BENGOO may not yet have the same recognition as some of the bigger names in the gaming headset market, but they are gradually making a name for themselves by delivering headsets that do the essentials well while remaining accessible in price. Much like how previous BENGOO headsets have focused on providing practical features at a fair cost, the BENGOO G9900 gaming headset continues this approach, offering a straightforward, comfortable, and well-built option for gamers looking for reliability.
The BENGOO G9900 is a multi-platform compatible gaming headset that works with PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile devices, offering broad flexibility for different setups. Lightweight, comfortable, and with a tuning aimed at gaming, the G9900 has surprised me in all the right ways.
There are a couple of areas where I think BENGOO could make small improvements, but considering the price, I think BENGOO has made a very capable headset here.
Overview
Design and build
Anyone familiar with BENGOO products will recognise the clean aesthetic approach that they use across their range. I love some of the detail that has gone into the G9900, with the matte black finish complemented by red LED lights that highlight your gaming setup without being too distracting.
The headset is ergonomically designed with soft, breathable leatherette ear cups, padded with memory foam to ensure comfort during extended gaming sessions. The ear cups are well-sized, creating a good seal around your ears for passive noise isolation while maintaining comfort. I found the headset comfortable for long sessions, although, as with most leatherette pads, warmth can build up during longer use.
The adjustable headband has a good range of motion and holds its position well, even when you shift during gaming. BENGOO has judged the clamping force perfectly; some headsets can press too hard on your temples, but these sit comfortably for my taste. The G9900 is also well-suited to glasses-wearers, as the pads are soft enough not to press too hard on your frames, although you may lose a bit of the seal, which is typical for closed-back designs.
Features and controls
All the controls on the BENGOO G9900 are conveniently located on the headset itself, making them very easy to locate and operate. You get a volume dial for quick adjustments and a mute switch that is easy to engage when you need to step away or mute your mic during a call.
Having the mic mute within easy reach is a bonus, and it’s one of those small touches that once you have it, you wonder why all headsets don’t include something similar. The USB plug powers the LED lighting, adding a subtle gaming atmosphere without becoming overwhelming.
Sound Quality
Much like with other BENGOO models, the G9900 offers a surrounding stereo subwoofer experience that is tuned with gaming in mind. Using a high-precision 50mm magnetic neodymium driver, the headset delivers clear sound with a dynamic range and rich bass, while avoiding the overpowering bass profile that can sometimes mask other important sounds in games.
It’s refreshing to use a headset that offers a sound profile suited for practical use, allowing mids and treble to remain clear while still providing a punch when needed. Voices and subtle game sounds come through well, ensuring you can easily pick out details that matter.
While the soundstage is not the widest, it provides a sense of direction and clarity that is more than acceptable at this price point. There is a minor tendency for the sound to become muddied when a lot is happening across all frequencies, but it holds up well during regular gaming sessions.
Connectivity
The BENGOO G9900 headset supports a wide range of platforms, including PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices, making it a practical all-round headset if you have multiple devices in your gaming setup. While you may need an adapter for older Xbox One controllers, for most modern systems, it is a straightforward plug-and-play connection that allows you to get into your games without fuss.
The attached cable offers enough length to allow you to move comfortably around your setup without worrying about pulling the connection. I connected it to my PC and it was ready within seconds, which is always appreciated when you want to get straight to your games.
Battery life
As a wired headset, the G9900 does not require charging, which is particularly useful for long gaming sessions where you don’t want to think about battery levels. Being able to plug in and continue gaming without concern about running out of charge is a convenience I always appreciate.
Microphone quality
The BENGOO G9900 gaming headset features a 720° soft noise-cancelling microphone, which can be flexibly adjusted to your preferred position. The microphone includes a noise reduction chip that helps filter out environmental noise, ensuring your voice remains clear during in-game chats and calls.
I found the microphone clear enough for everyday use, though as with many headsets in this category, bass tones in your voice may not fully carry through. The flexible boom arm holds its position well, and the length is practical, allowing for consistent voice pickup without needing constant adjustment.
Summary
I’m impressed with what BENGOO has achieved with the G9900 gaming headset. It offers a clean design, practical features, and solid build quality that gives it a premium feel beyond what you would expect at this price. The sound quality is clear and balanced, while the microphone offers reliable performance for gaming and calls.
There are areas where BENGOO could add additional features in future models, such as inline EQ adjustments or software controls, but considering the price, these are minor points.
Overall, the BENGOO G9900 gaming headset is a practical, reliable headset that will suit gamers looking for comfort, clear sound, and a straightforward user experience across a range of platforms, without unnecessary complications.
